"American and British pop/rock music during the 60's created an art form that has been described as one of the most important cultural revolutions in history. Within a few years, between 1968 and 1976, many of the most famous names associated with this early movement were dead."----Mae Brussell
[The CIA and FBI's War against political groups, and politics in popular music. This mostly took the form of media control, covert murder (see Rock & Roll hits) and a mind control programme that you can see in the multiple personalities (see: Joan Baez), the bloodline of the Laurel Canyon crowd (see: Inside The LC), and Satanism (see: Satanic Hand signals). Nowadays you mostly get bland shallow music that Simon Cowell is famous for.]

Once Dr. King made that statement, the CIA in particular considered him and his movement fair game. Even to the extent that their operations were limited to foreign policy, the -- again, because of the congressional investigations, we know that the CIA, which people thought did not operate domestically within the U.S., had a huge domestic program called Operation Chaos which was designed to counter opposition to the Vietnam War. "Never again was there a festival such as the one that took place that weekend of 1967. Never was there another event where over thirty rock groups were inflated by no more that the joy of an enraptured audience and the gorgeous pleasure of performance itself. There were eight, nine, ten times as many people running rock festivals taking place only two years later. There was never another Monterey! The weekend was too intoxicating, too radiant, too pure."

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in hell
Could break that Satans spell
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

Gather information on their immorality. Show them as scurrilous and depraved. Call attention to their habits and living conditions. Explore every possible embarrassment. Send in women and sex, break up marriages. Have members arrested on marijuana charges. Investigate personal conflicts or animosities between them. Send articles to the newspapers showing their depravity. Use narcotics and free sex to entrap. Use misinformation to confuse and disrupt. Get records of their bank accounts. Obtain specimens of handwriting. Provoke target groups into rivalries that may result in death."------Intelligence Activities and Rights of Americans. "No physical examination of the subject is required prior to the administration of LSD. A physician need not be present. Physicians might be called for the hope they would make a diagnosis of mental-breakdown which would be useful in discrediting the individual who was the subject of CIA interest. Richard Helms, CIA Director, argued that administering drugs, including poisonous LSD, might be on individuals who are unwitting as this is the only realistic method of maintaining the capability considering the intended operational use to influence human behavior as the operational targets will certainly be unwitting." Many of the musicians had the potential to become political. There were racial overtones to the black-white sounds, the harmony between people like Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, and Jimi Hendrix. Black music was the impetus that got the Rolling Stones into composing and performing.
.....By the end of 1969, the folk-music festival was killed in spirit and was over as a cultural happening. It never was the same again. There are musical performances, but it just isn't the same feeling. OPERATION CHAOS The CIA's War Against the Sixties Counter-Culture by Mae Brussell, November 1976
The CIA prepared for defense against American youth unrest in 1965, the same year as Camelot and Politica. With full knowledge of their illegal activities, they joined forces with the CIA and the Army. By August 1967, Special Operations group went after the youth. By July, 1968, Operation Chaos, identical to Chilean "Chaos," went after the "Restless Youth." This wasn't a study. It was an attack. Mid-summer of 1969, one month before the Manson Family massacres, Operation Chaos went into the most tight security of any assignment ever accomplished inside the CIA. From 1956-63, they had perfected enough LSD to cause every violent act or symptom associated with the violence in Los Angeles or at Altamont. It was identical to giving poison candy at Halloween. LSD was the moving force, the cause for the Sharon Tate-La Bianca slaughters. It was fed at the Spahn ranch for a steady diet. LSD was the moving force behind Altamont killing and violence Dec. 6, 1969. Thousands of tablets were distributed to the Hell's Angels, who then went totally berserk and started cracking skulls.
By 1969, the SSS, Special Services Staff of the FBI, combined with the Justice Department, and with CIA's Operation Chaos. August, 1969, was the Sharon Tate-La Bianca slaughter. December 6, 1969, was the Altamont concert of the Rolling Stones. OPERATION CHAOS The CIA's War Against the Sixties Counter-Culture by Mae Brussell, November 1976
When the first reports came out that the CIA could administer a tasteless substance into the beverage of one of their most responsible co-workers, and drive that man into a mental institution, or cause him to jump out of a window to his death, all existing CIA records were destroyed. The F.B.I. and C.I.A. came together in Operation Chaos; it was an inter-agency program that drew upon the entire intelligence apparatus of the U.S. government. As I say, it was the largest covert project in American history. ...The C.I.A. and the Mafia coordinated activities because the Mafia wanted a piece of the music business and the C.I.A. wanted to do away with politics in popular music so they had an incentive to join forces. Operation Chaos was created in 1967 and exposed in 1970 in several newspapers, along with the COINTELPRO. Both were forced to burrow deeper and they continued to survive. COINTELPRO is still with us and so is Operation Chaos but they're not known to the public. Should they be exposed again, they'll simply fire some personnel and burrow down again. To put down the youth movement entailed assassinating political leaders and musicians who spoke openly against the Nixon regime. The clearest example I know is Brian Jones. The killer of Brian Jones was a man by the name of George Thorogood not the musician who actually confessed on his deathbed. This was twenty years after the event, but there were also witnesses that very night Jones died three or four witnesses who all described the same thing. All of them received death threats, some were told to leave the country and keep their mouths shut or they'd be next. They had an incentive to keep quiet until the death of George Thorogood, at which time they came forward and were interviewed by a reputable historian by the name of A. E. Hochner, who published the interviews with the witnesses and they all corroborate the information that was provided by George Thorogood. What they described is that Brian Jones who was not on drugs that night, although drugs are often given as the cause of his death was an expert swimmer but drowned in his own swimming pool. How did this come about? According to the witnesses, his head was held underwater first by one man and when he struggled, two others jumped in the pool and held Brian Jones's head underwater until he drowned to death. To back up, why was Brian Jones targeted? A C.I.A. operative arrived in the lives of the Stones. He claimed to be a James Bond figure and he turned up with a valise full of every drug you can imagine. At this point the Stones still hadn't done LSD. They woke up one morning at the home of Keith Richards and here was this character slipping LSD into their tongues as they were waking up. They didn't know exactly what was happening but they swallowed the drug and the police arrived that very afternoon. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger were arrested and thus began their political problems. Secret & Suppressed: Alex Constantine by Adam Parfrey
